Today, I vowed to give up shopping for a month.
A few bloggers I know have done this in the past (so inspiring!), but I’m at the point where I have little self restraint when I so desperately need it.
So today, we’re popped over to a nearby Borders (20% off is NOT a good deal. Nothing purchased), yesterday I popped into the Gap and bought these. At the end of this? I will allow myself a nice reward. Maybe. If hubs has a job by then (please sweet mother of Jesus give my husband a job).
I’ve always enjoyed shopping. Always. It’s what I do. I love finding pretty new things, good deals, and then some.
But with hubs not having a job (yet), I have NOT shown the restraint that I should. I mean, I haven’t gone out every week shopping but I justify things I shouldn’t and need to take a month to hold back.
So from March 1 to March 31…I will be shop free. Which is going to be not fun, given that I just discovered a Nordstrom Rack in Pentagon City. I’ll be using Crunchy’s guidelines for her Buy Nothing Challenge which are…
- No new clothes
- No new gadgets
- No new furniture or housewares
- No salon services
- No makeup
- No tools
- No whatever the hell else people buy
You can pick up your jaws now. Liz, this means no shopping trip until April (it’s okay, I can wait). I won’t be reading the many budget fashion blogs that often inspire me to run, nay, sprint to various favorite stores to buy new cute things. I will refrain from buying anything like this, this, or this.
Dudettes, I’m borderline here with having a problem. Seriously. I mean, I can go shopping and not buy a damned thing, but other times? Well…I go a little crazy. So it’s time to rein myself in for a little while. A month – more specifically the month before my birrrffffdddaayyyy – is the perfect month to do it. Consider it my lenten sacrifice, except I’ll be done before Easter (sorry Jebus?) – I’m kidding. It’s not my lenten sacrifice. I haven’t figured out what I’m doing for lent actually.
Each week, I’ll post about weaknesses, what I’m lusting after, and how much I think I saved by not shopping. Not that I shop every week, gosh no, but I definitely see things I like every week and sometimes go buy them. When I shouldn’t.
Here’s to resisting temptation. Starting March 1. Bring it on No Shop Month! Who’s with me?
