So I was supposed to race this morning.
But this past week as I realized, adjusting from a 1-10p schedule last week T-Th, then 11-8 Fri and 8-5 on Saturday to straight 8-5p M-S this week because I grabbed an extra shift of OT left me exhausted.
Saturday night we had gone to Vapiano’s in DC with some friends of ours and some of their married friends who were visiting from out of town. I have a big fat Italian love affair with Vapiano’s and I know all their food is good but their pasta bolognese with some Italian sausage is my long time fave. Nom.
However, the best (and my personal favorite) part about this night out? Was it was booze free. After dinner, we went to see Crazy, Stupid Love which I thought was amazing. Steve Carrell and Emma Stone are HILARIOUS and let’s face it, Ryan Gossling is so pretty to look at. If you haven’t seen it yet? I recommend it – it’s definitely not predictable and twists and turns leaving you laughing and making your heart hurt with sympathy. A great movie – and not too heavy on the cheese factor either 🙂
Hubs and I hit up Menchie’s in Annapolis just as they were closing their doors to round out the night and then headed home to finish watching Jersey Shore before I crashed on the couch.
I set my alarm for about 6:00a knowing I had to register for the Dog Days 8k by 7:30 I figured we could leave the house by 7 and get there with enough time.
Poke, poke, poke. Are we going? Hubs asked.
I couldn’t even keep my eyes open. My body yearned to stay in bed saying “listen lady, you’ve been running me on about 5-6.5 hours of sleep EACH night this week – please sweet jebus, let me sleep in.”
So hubs said, “you need to sleep. We’ll skip this one and run when we wake up.”
Except I didn’t wake up til 10a and it was a blazing 91 degrees out.
Whoops? I guess I really was tired/exhausted.
So we went to our usual place for Sunday morning brunch, then headed over to the Outlets on the Eastern Shore to window shop, and then got ice cream from one of my all time favorite places that I haven’t been to since we lived in Connecticut – Tasti-D-Lite thanks to a baller LivingSocial deal I scored.
Later, we went home, tried to the go the pool but it started to rain just as we got there. So instead, we headed over to the Town Center, grabbed hubs a new yoga mat (he didn’t have one), and had a little late lunch at Whole Foods (their salad bar is my fave!!!).
Why is it the salads I make at home never ever turn out this tasty? This one had spinach, lettuce, broccoli, cucumbers, tomatoes, pine nuts, chick peas, quinoa, and feta with a hard boiled egg and honey mustard dressing. Which is one of my newest food obsessions, all my life I’ve hated mustard and recently I’ve fallen in love with honey mustard and can’t seem to get enough. Weird.
Then, we went to Bikram. Not gonna lie I was a little scared.
I had never tried Bikram, but apparently it’s lululemon Annapolis’s studio of the quarter so every Sunday night they have a free class at 7p (baller!) I’d taken hubs to yoga before – both a vinyasa style and a yin style. He wasn’t so much a fan of the yin but enjoyed the vinyasa well enough. But this? He said he thoroughly enjoyed. “I’ve never, ever sweat that much in my entire life” were his exact words.
I was nervous about it given that I had tried “bikram inspired” at the Yoga Center of Greenwich last year and wasn’t a huge fan. I don’t know how this was different than that but I really enjoyed the class tonight. Even though the room smelled funny. I was dripping wet, and most of the poses were all ones I felt comfortable with as vinyasa has some pose similarities (at least I thought so) so I got a really good cardio workout in and again, holy sweat batman.
Did I mention today was the first day I did not have to roll out of bed because my legs were too sore from Crossfit? Yeah. It was and I can already feel that my muscles needed the stretch from tonight. At the very least, I will be back there next weekend.
Ultimately, lesson learned. When my body says it’s exhausted…listen to it. Tomorrow AM we’re going to get up and run 8 miles which will be a nice way to round out my weekend then it’s back to work. I need to find a workout schedule that works because last week was a total bust and I just can’t fall back into that trap like I did before (that’s how I got here to begin with remember?) – using commuting etc.. as my excuse to not workout. But I’ll write more about that all tomorrow.
Also, next weekend? My sister is visiting! Huzzah!!!
How was your weekend friends? How do you handle it when you want to keep going and trying to do EVERYTHING BECA– USE OMG THERE’S NOT ENOUGH TIME IN THE DAY when all your body wants to do is sleep? How do you stay balanced?
