As I woke up late yesterday (usually I get up at 6a to go workout and then hit the bus by 7:40) I knew I was driving in so I had plans to leave the house by 8 or so to get to work by 9-9:15ish but yesterday? I woke up at 7:40a. Because I drove in to the metro, it didn’t make me late but I definitely didn’t have time for my workout. Whoops? Roll with the punches and don’t let ’em get you down.
I called it a rest day and decided to get up today for a strength workout before my 10k tomorrow. My 10k is really more of a training run for the half marathon in a few weeks – though I should be at like 8 miles for my half training I figure I’ll fit in 6 tomorrow, 9 next weekend in VT and 11 the following and peak at the half on 11/19. I’ve done a half marathon on far less training (ah-hem National Half when I was sidelined for 4 weeks because of a stupid injury?) But I’d love to PR so I’m trying to make the best of these last few weeks.
Instead of the cardio I was going to do – I did 10 minutes warm up a 3.5 at 2.0 incline on the treadmill and then sprinted home in the rain to “cool down” – legs feel like jello. A great workout all in all – an ah-hem crossfit inspired workout if you will.
The squats I did with an arm press with 5lb hand weights instead of the dead lift but just..wowza.
5 sets of 10 burpees
20 mountain climbers
20 squats with arm press (5lb weights)
set 1 (with pushups) 7:39
set 2: 3:24
set 3: 3:19
set 4: 3:02
set 5: 3:10
All in all? Not too shabby. I am pleased/impressed with myself. I love that I can feel myself getting stronger!
Today? I have a lot of cleaning to do since I haven’t really done that in a week – not that I mess the place up by myself but you know, little things like take out the trash, clean the bathroom, and run the dishwasher. Nothing major.
I have a Junior League fundraiser to go to this afternoon that’s supposed to be an oyster/bbq fest on the beach in Edgewater but umm…I’m very curious to see how it’s going to go in this rain. Like serious not sprinkling rain but steady, cold rain. Ugh. Thankfully it only goes til 4 or so then I’m going to come home, cook a carb feast and then go to bed early since I have to be up at o’dark thirty to get to the race start.
I do think though, that I need to start more weekends like this. I feel well rested, energized and ready to kick back! I like that feeling!
What do you do for weekend workouts?
