Happy November my friends. The end of this dumpster fire of a year is like, less than 60 days away which is… reassuring to say the very least, and fingers crossed we’ll have better days ahead once all the votes are counted. I started writing this Monday and well, **gestures broadly** here I am publishing on Thursday.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve gotten busier with work and I’m still trying to kick off my digital product for Heidi Schmidt Creative, cue all the madness as I try to balance client demands and projects galore. It’s overwhelming and exciting but man – I miss working from home by myself. I was much more focused in those days, you know… 8 months ago.
To put my freelancing experience in perspective, ten years ago when Hubs and I moved to CT after we both lost our jobs in DC within 3 months of each other and mere weeks before we got married, I tried my hand at freelancing but didn’t get very far. It’s not my nature to be sales-y, it’s not my nature to be self-promotional, but to freelance and to do it well, you’ve always got to be hustling. I found it hard to make connections and well, this was also in the earlier days of “digital and social media marketing” so finding my value add was… challenging. Now, I’ve got ten years of experience (including 2.5 years in the agency setting) and a big ole inbound marketing award under my belt which I think has certainly helped my confidence this time around.
Anyhow on to November goals because let’s make sure 2020 is remembered not just as being a dumpster fire. Going after big goals is still important even when anxiety is high and sometimes you feel like you just want to curl up in a ball under your bedsheets and wish the world would just take a big ole pause.
Work: Launch my digital product. It’s going to be a marketing calendar/content guide of sorts, around the $30 price range as it’ll include a year’s worth of content ideas, templates to find your audience and to manage your content outflow. It’s a big deal for me and it’s been in my head for months but I just need to sit down and write it all out. I have about a million steps to go to get there – the goal is to launch before the holidays.
Health/Fitness: I’m wrapping up this round of BodyWell with Fit4Mom in a couple weeks and I want to stay on the bandwagon because I think it really helps me be conscious of the decisions I’m making. Subsequently, this round one of my goals was to become a morning workout person, and mostly it’s stuck which is awesome. So keeping that habit up is goal #1.
Goal # 2 here is running more. I haven’t run consistently since June and I’ve slowly been getting back into it. I’d love to get back to running 3 days/week even if they’re just short 20 minute jaunts through the neighborhood. So this month I’m shooting for 2 running days per week. I’m doing a 30-day workout challenge in November by working out every day and I want to start trying to get back to my old mileage or at the very least doing one longer run each week. Longer miles are just lonely these days.
Self: Read more. October was a garbage month for reading. I think I finished two books? So I want to pick 5 or so to finish by the end of the year to hit my 25 book goal (though 5 would put me at 28 so I might as well make it 30). I’d love to get through 3 of those in November, the current book I’m reading isn’t hooking me in like I hoped it would – it’s not unenjoyable but just slow I think.
Family: Figure out what’s going on with Ethan’s eating. He’s a super picky eater and it’s getting to the point where we’re backsliding with the number of foods he eats. I’m not sure if this means we should find him an OT again, or what but I’d love to figure out how we can resolve this and get him to try new foods again. Foods he once loved he’s not touching and it worries me from a nutrition level. If anyone has a picky kid with sensory/ADHD and has recommendations, please let me know! To that point, I’ve been experimenting with my cooking more and going outside my comfort zone so I want to keep trying new recipes each week – even just 1.
What are your November Goals?
