I made a pact this year to read more. In the first half of this month, I slayed it. I plowed through three books in about two weeks – five books for the month which is the most I’ve read in a long time.
- Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes
- The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai
- From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon
- Do This For Me: A Novel by Eliza Kennedy
- The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn
The Right Swipe – 4/5 stars. It was an easy read, I love that it touched upon some big issues (revenge porn, misogyny in the workforce/insubordination and the consequences of hooking up with your boss). It set up the Modern Love series pretty well, in the sense that Rhiannon (the main character)’s colleague was introduced with enough background and will be the featured character in the next book. It was a quick and light read – just how i like ’em!
Evvie Drake Starts Over – 5/5 stars. I effing loved this book and devoured it in about a day. The romance and sparks between Evvie and the washed up baseball player and the ensuing heartbreak just felt real. I got so swept up in it – like she was my friend, like her emotions were mine. So raw. Definitely a favorite.
The Arrangement – 3/5 stars. I didn’t love this book. I didn’t love the main couple. The other supporting characters were sometimes confusing and or seemed irrelevant/didn’t add anything to the story. Lucy, the main character, seemed a bit selfish and she and her husband were both a bit unsympathetic. The funny thing about it, when I got it from the library digital loans, I realized I had already started reading it.
From Twinkle, with Love – 5/5 stars. I am a sucker for YA novels. I am a sucker for YA novels with awkward homegirls who are so much like me. Granted I wasn’t a video creator when I was a teenager but this book totally had the romance, the character growth and the happy ending. It was a breezy read.
Do this for Me: A Novel – 4/5 stars. I mean, I don’t know where to start with this. It certainly kept me on my toes, the main character was sometimes a bit…. unlikeable and a bit self-absorbed. I LOVED the ending though. It’s always great when you follow the journey of characters who go through IMMENSE self-growth – even if they’re a little unlikeable during that journey. Another quick read that sucked me in.
What were your favorite books this past month? I have a few on my list, but I’m so much more into kindles, I 200% support the library (thrifty if you will so I buy fewer books), and the waitlist is insane for so many of the books i want to read! Boo! OR they all come out at the same time. *sigh*
