What I Wore Wednesday

Confession: my Wednesday outfits have been…m’eh lately. Sorry friends.

However my Tuesday outfit this week? Was baller.

skirt: NY&Co
Sweater: JCrew Outlet
Tank: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: JCrew Outlet
Necklace: Tiffany Pearls

Tonight we’re running a favorite downtown loop of mine. I’m SUPER sore from the workout yesterday – like holy owies. Dinner will be some amazing Salmon Burgers that we got on sale at Whole Foods the other day – expect a post (and another one later about the amazeballs pizza we made). And cleaning. Lots of cleaning. Because we were busy much of last week it’s been a little hectic on the home front in regards to keeping up with it. Don’t you hate that? When things go to hell in a hand basket because you just don’t have time? Yeah that’s been life recently.

In case you missed it….I posted over on NewlyMarylanders about 12 things I want to do this summer – 12 things? 12 weeks of summer? Hmmm…I think I’m on to something here.

We ran again this morning, since when I got home yesterday, I crawled into bed and finished the book I was reading. Whoops. Post work runs are…not ideal apparently since we definitely did not make it out to the Fleet Feet running group I had planned on going to. Whoopsy daisy.

What I wore Wednesday

Ready to run!

Top: run swiftly by lululemon
Shorts: Speed shorts by lululemon
sneaks:  Newtons

Again, don’t mind my mess. I just haven’t had the energy to clean up. I’ll do that tonight though. Hubs is going to an open house for a company up in Beltsville so I’m on my own tonight (woo hoo! PARRTTYYY…or not).

I do however, clean up real nice.

top: JCrew Outlet
skirt: express
shoes: Payless
necklace: ebay

My run this morning was so sluggish. I couldn’t tell if it was the humidity, the fact that my legs felt like lead and my calves were super tight, or if it was just because I was super restless sleeping last night or a combination since none of those really help have a great morning run. But we managed to fit in a nice 4.25 miler in about 45 minutes.  Pretty sure while hubs is gone tonight I’ll be a. doing a yoga podcast, b. cleaning up the bedroom and c. catching up on my bad television that he hates oh so much. Somewhere in there, there will be a mini date with my foam roller. Hopefully that’ll help some of the tension in my calves and IT bands.

I just can’t let this bad run define my training this week. Each week is full of success (completing all my workouts!) or hurdles (soreness or sleeping in) but as a runner, one thing I’ve learned the most is that you can’t let those hurdles take over and bring you down. You just have to pick yourself up and keep going.

When I was a hurdler in high school on our track team, I struggled a lot. I was never really fast and couldn’t figure the 4 step out (4 steps between each hurdle alternating lead legs). I had somehow taught myself how to hurdle in middle school and was okay at it but I used only my right leg to go over the hurdles and never learned how to alternate despite my coach pushing me hard by my senior year. My mom still remembers when I raced my first home meet freshman year and I fell. I got back up but man that race did me in and for a while, I was afraid to hurdle.

Eventually, I got over it and realized I’m not going to go anywhere if I don’t just do that…get over it. Which is really, what you have to do as a runner. When you don’t PR, when you have a tough run or when you mentally just get down on yourself. You just have to get over it. And keep moving forward. Setbacks don’t define you and they don’t equal failure

How do you handle tough days or bad training runs?

What I Wore Wednesday

It was a pretty blah Wednesday. Hectic. I woke up late. Didn’t have time to dry my hair because I couldn’t decide which skirt to wear. Just…m’eh. One of those days. You know how it goes.

Skirt: NY&Co
Top: Lilly Pulitzer
Shoes: JCrew
Necklace: Jcrew

I wasn’t feeling super creative this morning. I’ve been struggling with working out since hubs got home. We ran Monday night, last night I had a work event, and we were supposed to go running the AM but he doesn’t understand that while  I’m difficult to rouse in the morning, I do want to be a morning workout guru. And for him bragging about waking up at 4am for the past seven months, he sure isn’t trying very hard.

Tonight though, we’re popping over to a track shortly to do some ladder sprints. BAM!

800m warm up
800m cd

All with about 1-2min rest between sets. should be about a 4 mile jaunt around the track. Normally I usually do 400m intervals (in form of Yasso 800’s for marathon training) at about 2-2:30 minutes each I’m hoping to do . I’m trying to get into the 8-9 min/mile range versus the 9-10 minute/mile range so I think workouts like this between now and June might actually help.

Hubs is focusing more on his 2 mile run for his upcoming PT test, so while I’m training for the Dover AFB half and the Zooma 10k in June with distances, he wants to focus more on speed which I can do. I need that too. So tonight? Speed workout it is!

Do you incorporate speed workouts into your training? If so, what’s your favorite??

What I wore Wednesday: Spring In My Step

I have a spring in my step. Tomorrow I head to Texas to retrieve my husband from 7 long months of training.

What I wore Wednesday

Skirt: JCrew outlet
Top and sweater: JCrew outlet
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: JCrew

Don’t mind the crap on my floor.

The skirt and the shirt were both bought with my weekend shopping excursion last weekend up to Arundel Mills. I’m a JCrew addict. What of it?

I need to find another race. I’m itching to get back to running but without a race to train for, I have a very difficult time motivating myself. I did however, go to yoga this morning and that was some sweaty awesomeness at Prana.  I’m leaning towards the Dover AFB 1/2 marathon in June. It’s a flat course, it’s inexpensive and not too far away. Hubs MAY have another commitment that weekend so we’ll see how it all works out. I haven’t registered yet.

Also…the final weigh in:

starting weight: 154
current weight: 134.8
last week: 134.8
Difference: 0
total loss since 9/2011: –
total % of body weight loss: -12.4%

I still have about 15 lbs to go til my goal weight but I’m still immensely proud of accomplishing this massive weight loss among other things since hubs left in October.

On the fun side, along with Annapolis Cup this weekend, Adam and I are running our first 5k together, I’m attending the Tiger Trot 5k at a local elementary school for work and thought it would be fun to run it as well. When I mentioned it, he told me to sign him up as well! Fun!

How do YOU remotivate yourself after a big race?

What I Wore Wednesday

I was going to go to yoga this morning.

I really need to stop contemplating in the morning what I want to do. My alarm went off at 530a because I like to snooze so I have to set it for 30-60 minutes before I need to be out of bed. Thought about yoga but then decided I’d go for a run. Thought about swimming after work and then snoozed til 7a. Didn’t get my swim gear together in time so I’m going to go for a run after work. But was enjoying the thought of “hey, it was so nice just coming home…” yesterday that I over contemplated yoga or running this morning and did neither. Whoops.

Top: Old Navy
Pants: Gap
Shoes/Belt: JCrew

I’ve been sticking with my 100 pushups challenge and week 1 is done! (Why does it only have you do 3 days? Whoops. I’ll stick with trying to do 3 sets of 6 for the rest of the week or repeat week 1)  and today I did a 45 second plank. I’m building my way up to a 5 minute plank. It could take a while though, 45 seconds was tough yo.

Tonight: 4.5 mile run
Tomorrow: 3-5 mile run with lulu run club
Friday: rest/Gala 🙂
Saturday: 5-8 mile run

Total mileage: need 15-20 miles this week to make 75 miles by 4/30 🙂

Happy Wednesday! Only NINE Days til the Husband comes home!!!! (8 til I see him again!!!)

What I Wore Wednesday

Edition:  Work events galore day! Also known as the day I scurried around Fort Meade!

skirt: express (from HIGH SCHOOL!!!)
Sweater: JCrew (another Jackie…)
Shoes: JCrew Outlet
Necklace: JCrew
belt: JCrew Outlet

I need to seriously fix the lighting in my room because that’s just not going to cut it. Also don’t mind the mess. I need to clean my room tonight so I’m not frantically packing at 4am on Friday before I head to BWI for my 630a flight to Burlington.

I know it’s similar to last weeks outfit and just so I’m not horribly boring, I’m going to throw in a What I’m Wearing BIRTHDAY edition since tomorrow is my birthday and I already have my super-dee-duper cute birthday outfit planned. Of course I do.

Anyhow…onto the pseudo-healthy living part of my blog?

I joined the Annapolis Striders last night – marking ANOTHER item off my 30 before 30 list. #winning I’m pretty excited because now I can run their races for like…pocket change and I’m also hoping to volunteer for a race before the end of the year too! Joy!

I also ran with the Fleet Feet Tuesday night run group which is likely to become a more regular event on the calendar. I really enjoyed it, it was a nice 4 mile loop around town and the pace was perfect. Just so challenging that I pushed myself but not so challenging I felt like a slow poke.  Thoroughly enjoyed myself and since I have 3 labs to do tonight, I’m not making it to yoga. And I need to pack. And clean. and OMG WHY IS THERE NEVER ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY?!?!

{insert panic here}

Are you a member of a run club?

What I wore Wednesday: JCrew Edition

Spring has sprung. Again. And I love it. And can I just mention, most people orange looks m’eh on them but I kind of like it!

Shoes: JCrew Outlet
Skirt: NY&Co
Cardigan: JCrew Outlet
Belt: JCrew
Necklace: JCrew

(Can you tell I big fat puffy heart JCrew?)

Last night I put my run aside, finished up one of two quizzes for the week (93% what what take that CSS!) and headed out to have a glass of wine with a pal down at Sly Fox. The weather was perfect and I loved hanging out with a gal pal chatting and enjoying some red wine and sweet potato fries (if you haven’t tried the sweet potato fries at Sly Fox GO NOW) rather than hanging out around my staycation home with the pups and my laptop.

Tonight though? I’m going to do my 45 minute tempo run (can I confess that I’m still not entirely sure how to run a tempo run?) and then head home, feed my cats and then go walk the dogs and do homework at my staycation house and get to bed early. Tomorrow, I’m going to run with the lululemon run club again and possibly hit up trivia at Hero’s with a gal pal and then Friday I’m running in the Fleet Sweet 4 mile fun run and then Saturday the Youth 5k + 6-8 miles.  SO MUCH RUNNING. But next week is my half and that means taper/rest/lots of yoga which I feel really really good about.

I think I can come in at a 2:15:00 time AT LEAST. Which will then be rewarded at the Shelburne Winery. Wine + Vermont + lake views + birthday + family = love.

How do you treat yourself during the week?

What I wore Wednesday

All this week it’s been chilly. The past two weeks we’ve had weather in the 70’s that make me long for summer and evenings with the husband drinking orange crushes or reading on our patio.

What I wore Wednesday…

dress: JCrew
shoes: Payless
necklace: JCrew

Looking forward to the husband being home a month from YESTERDAY (4 weeks from Friday!) so I can have a photographer to take these pictures every Wednesday morning so I don’t feel like a tool bag looking at my camera on my phone. Now granted I could probably set up my awesome camera with the timer and blah blah but that’s just way too much effort. This picture may or may not have made me late this morning. Whoops? (though it could have also been my lunch and breakfast that I made this AM – making the same thing tomorrow – stay tuned for that post because omg. It was delish.)

Also, I’m loving the fact that I brought back what I wore Wednesday. It was a favorite feature of mine when it was briefly around, and combines my pseudo passion for fashion (if it’s JCrew or Lilly…kidding. Kind of) and blogging. I’m not fashionista enough to be a fashion blogger but I might post more inspiration around these parts on good fashion forward days.  After blogging should be fun, and if you’re not blogging about stuff you want to blog about or care about then what’s the point right?

Weighing in…

Because I haven’t updated my weight in so long – last week I had a draft and I was so super pumped because Friday AM the scale read 135.4. !!!!!!!!!!! But then I got busy and I forgot to post it. Then it was moot. Wamp wamp.

After this weekends shenanigans and general laziness on Saturday afternoon (after 10 miles mind you) and Sunday, I popped back up to 137.2 and haven’t budged all week despite a 90 minute hot yoga class monday and a baller strength workout yesterday with Brian.

Original weight: 154
Current weight: 137.2
Total loss since Sept/October: -16.8
total loss for 10 lb challenge (starting weight 143): -5.8

I was so pumped that last week I was at 135. I’m starting to enjoy going out drinking less and less and less because each time I do I feel like I retain water for the next five days and any productivity I made running or doing yoga during the week is lost and the scale shows it. I can still go out, and limit myself. I know this. But depending on who I go out with, it’s hard for me you know? I know I’ll get there, I have about 15 lbs to go and once I get back into the 120’s I’ll be even happier and more comfortable. That being said, I know it’s not all about numbers and I’ve felt myself get stronger and faster and that’s what matters the most.

Yesh Brian made me use those bad boys. They are just as bad ass as they look when you see them on the Biggest Loser. #justsayin’ Never used battle ropes before? Check out this great article from FitSugar on how to use them at your gym. And if you’re in the Annapolis area and want a bad ass trainer, check out Fitness by Brian for TRX and Battle Ropes galore (and apparently kettle bells? Uff.)

Our workout lasted about 30 minutes, and I was going to go for a run but I was upset because on my way back to the car, I dropped my phone texting a pal because it was so effing cold out yesterday (50 degrees now officially equals cold) so instead of running I booked it to the Apple Store to see what they could do for me. Answer? Nothing unless I want to spend $200 even though the phone is less than 6 months old. Wamp wamp.  I’ll wait for iPhone 5 to come out.

Anyhow not only did our workout include those bad ass battle ropes but also a lil TRX love (which I did NOT get a picture of). We’re going to work out again next week (huzzah!) and next time I’ll run over (since I’m going to be house sitting near by, why not?)

Tonight is an off day since I have an event to go to tonight, but tomorrow I’m going to run then go to hot yoga and then Friday AM maybe I’ll run before work. We’ll see. This morning run thing is not working out nearly as well as I had hoped.

Have you ever tried TRX or Battle Ropes?

What I Wore Wednesday: Happy Spring Version

I wanted to post this earlier but the thing about having a job that’s 9-5 with bosses who don’t expect you to stay late is that there never seems to be enough hours in the day not to mention I’ve been waking up at 7:45a because I haven’t been sleeping well for reasons that I haven’t been able to pinpoint.

Regardless, I was doing so well scheduling my posts earlier this week and last week that I forgot to shhedule this one this morning.

Skirt: Lilly Pulitzer
Top: Old Navy
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: JCrew

LOVE this skirt. I bought it during the fall sale last year at the Pink Crab downtown in Annapolis for like $40 which is amazing for a regularly $100 skirt but I never really had anywhere to wear it but today? Was perfect. And I like getting dressed up for work. So much.

The Pseudo Hill Workout

Last night I ran down a road I hadn’t ever ran down. It was about 1.75 miles to the very end (which turned out to be a private road that I got a lil spooked running down afraid they were going to hunt me down for trespassing) and then I turned down a side street on the way back to add in an additional .35 miles.

total distance: 4.02
time: 42:07

You see, I was envisioning a flat run. The roads near me while inclined in some areas are for the most part flat.

But this road? Was not flat. It started flat but I soon saw as I ran past a little side development that went up that I might be in for more than I bargained for. I was hoping to put in 9:00-9:30/miles. 4 miles? I wanted to do it under 40 minutes because I’ve learned the past few weeks of training that you can only make yourself run faster by a. running and b. making yourself run faster. Speed workouts don’t hurt but ultimately, you can’t run faster if you don’t push yourself right?

So the road was a bit hilly. There were some pretty big ones. So while it was flat, I was running 9:00-9:45 minute miles, and the hills? Well those killed me – 11:00/mile ish but still a 10 minutes something pace with some big ass hills. I probably won’t be running down that road again anytime soon.

I didn’t run tonight (I opted for a short nap after work before Junior League which attribute to my lack of sleep) but I’m going to do my 35 minute tempo run tomorrow and treat myself with a hot yoga class up the road from my office at Charm City Yoga (thanks LivingSocial!). Win win friends!

Hows your week going friends?

What I’m Wearing Wednesday – December 2

So today I’m heading into the city. I’m meeting my dear ‘ole dad for lunch, galivanting around and then heading up north to meet hubs in New Haven/Hartford.

So being that I try to pretend to be all stylista like and such, I decided to be comfortable, casual and cool. AKA giving a damn. Unlike last week.

Shoes: Steve Madden (Love!!!)
Cowl neck sweater: Ann Taylor Loft (on sale!)
Jeans: Ann Taylor Loft Boot cut
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft
Button Down Shirt (white): JCrew (outlet!)

Love love these shoes. All things considering, they’re pretty comfortable too!

Happy Humpday everyone!!!
