2020 has certainly been a year like NO other – amirite? Normally, we’d be spending the next week traveling up the east coast to visit family in Connecticut and Vermont. Instead, we’re home, keeping ourselves and our families safe as public health guidelines recommend.
The other day I got really down – it’s been a year since we’ve seen our families and it’s really wearing on me, it’s been a long year, and I miss them all dearly. As much as I rag on visiting Vermont in the winter, it’s one of my favorite things – especially kicking around downtown Burlington, taking my boys to our favorite pizza place, sipping a switchback and seeing the snow fall. It’s my favorite place ever.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun right?
I made us a 12 days of Christmas-ish bucket list of things that we can do as a family to keep us busy in our time off (though I’ll still be working to get things done) – largely in part so Little Man doesn’t rot his brain in front of Roblox but you know, also for family fun time.
We’ve done a few things on this list already – we saw lights on the Bay the other night, and little man and I finished decorating cookies Tuesday also. Next week we’re REALLY hoping to go find a place to go snow tubing – but we’ll see. We’re a little low on snow gear so we may have to remedy that before we go on THAT adventure 🙂
- Go to see Lights on the Bay
- Decorate Cookies
- Go to Watkins Park Light Display
- See the Ellicott City Train Displays
- Do a Random Act of Kindness
- Participate in the Advent Challenge at Church
- Watch a Christmas Movie with Hot Chocolate
- Play a new board game as a family
- Deliver Cookies to Neighbors
- Go Snowtubing or sledding
- Build a gingerbread house
- Do a Christmas puzzle
Some of these are local to Maryland, so if you’re elsewhere – find some fun Christmas light displays, or train displays, do some good deeds (we donated to a gift card drive for local restaurant employees, and donated winter jackets to our church) – you don’t have to be in Maryland to do those type of things.
